At the most recent Labelexpo, the prevailing trend was hybridization of technologies. This also concerned curing, a field in which, alongside conventional systems, LED-based ones are quickly gaining ground (currently with a nearly 30% share) and in which the first mixed systems are now appearing. The one developed by IST Metz for narrow web printing is called MBS® and functions both with UV lamps and LED technology.

The one developed by IST Metz for narrow web printing is called MBS® and functions both with UV lamps and LED technology. It is very easy to use, requiring only insertion in the printing machine, to which it connects automatically, enabling activation of the desired function as needed. Maintenance is also simplified by the fact that the internal housing is removable, with no screws, in order to facilitate access to all components. The MBS® system is available in three versions: with UV lamp, air cooling and designed for later adoption of LED; with LED, air cooling and designed for later adoption of UV lamps; a hybrid version, also using air cooling, with the two technologies already integrated and interchangeable as needed.  IST Metz MBS system standard models are equipped with the compact and accessible ELC®-X electronic power supply systems, which enable continuous regulation of the UV lamps, but also powering the LEDs, with the same unit. Furthermore, the new MBS® Lampcure is supplied with URS® cold mirror reflectors, made up of over 60 different metal oxide layers that make it highly resistant and able to guarantee optimal heat management. IR radiation is discharged directly into the air cooled aluminium profile through a special coating; the rotary reflectors open and close automatically, guaranteeing operational safety. The lamp system requires a ramp-up time of just 40 seconds.
